About Angelica
A Community Member, A Parent, A Leader
Angelica Garcia has spent her career serving Students and Families — as an educator, a parent, and a tireless advocate for every child's right to an excellent education.
Rooted in the Valle Lindo School District
Angelica Garcia grew up in Valle Lindo Area, attending the same schools she now fights to improve. She knows firsthand what it means to be a student in this district — the pride of belonging to a community that believes in its children, and the frustration of watching resources fall short of what students deserve.
After earning her B.A. degree in Psychology and a minor in Education from the UCLA, she went on to attend Cal State Los Angeles and received her M.A. in Counseling along with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential and a Child Welfare Attendance Credential. Spending nearly two decades working at South El Monte High School as a school counselor, Angelica has chosen to raise her family in the Valle Lindo School District. As a parent, she sat along side many of our families in advocating for students and their needs. As a current Assistant Girls Wrestling Coach, Angelica has helped in the development of many of our teenage girls earn the opportunity to wrestle in college. She is a founding member and current Chief Financial Officer for a non-profit, known as the San Gabriel Valley Business Leadership Foundation. The foundation donates to high school graduates who will attend a university or college in the form of academic scholarships to students from the Greater South El Monte Monte Area.
This experience — as a student, an educator, a volunteer, a coach and a parent — gives Angelica a perspective that is rare on a school board. She doesn't just understand policy; she understands people. She knows that behind every budget line is a child, a teacher, and a family counting on the board to make the right call.
"I'm running because I believe our schools can be better — and I know that when our community comes together, there is nothing we cannot achieve for our children."
— Angelica Garcia
